I am writing with urgent concern regarding Malika Azizi, who is currently at imminent risk of execution in Iran.
This case comes at a particularly alarming time. In recent months, Iranian authorities have intensified executions in parallel with widespread unrest and ongoing conflict. These actions are increasingly carried out under conditions of severe internet restrictions and communication blackouts, which limit transparency and prevent independent scrutiny.
Malika Azizi, 18, from Masal, Gilan, was arrested in a house raid on 19 Dey 1404 after participating in the 18 Dey protests and transferred to Lakan Prison in Rasht. She faces the risk of a death sentence on charges of Moharebeh. She spoke out against the regime in court and was beaten. Her family does not support her.
Credible reports indicate that detainees are often subjected to unfair trials, restricted legal access, and coerced confessions. When executions take place during periods of reduced visibility, the risk of irreversible injustice is significantly heightened.
In this context, international attention becomes one of the few remaining safeguards.
I respectfully urge you to:
* Call for an immediate halt to the execution of Malika Azizi
* Raise this case urgently with the European External Action Service and relevant EU institutions
* Advocate for transparency and independent monitoring, particularly during ongoing communication restrictions
