I am writing with urgent concern regarding Yousef Karimi, who is currently at imminent risk of execution in Iran.
This case comes at a particularly alarming time. In recent months, Iranian authorities have intensified executions in parallel with widespread unrest and ongoing conflict. These actions are increasingly carried out under conditions of severe internet restrictions and communication blackouts, which limit transparency and prevent independent scrutiny.
Yousef Karimi, a 49-year-old Kurdish citizen from Bukan, was arrested from his home by intelligence forces without a warrant on 14 Farvardin 1405 and transferred to an unknown location. More than a week later, his status and whereabouts remain unknown, and he is denied contact with his family and access to a lawyer.
Credible reports indicate that detainees are often subjected to unfair trials, restricted legal access, and coerced confessions. When executions take place during periods of reduced visibility, the risk of irreversible injustice is significantly heightened.
In this context, international attention becomes one of the few remaining safeguards.
I respectfully urge you to:
* Call for an immediate halt to the execution of Yousef Karimi
* Raise this case urgently with the European External Action Service and relevant EU institutions
* Advocate for transparency and independent monitoring, particularly during ongoing communication restrictions
