I am writing with urgent concern regarding Sahand Abbasnia, who is currently at imminent risk of execution in Iran.
This case comes at a particularly alarming time. In recent months, Iranian authorities have intensified executions in parallel with widespread unrest and ongoing conflict. These actions are increasingly carried out under conditions of severe internet restrictions and communication blackouts, which limit transparency and prevent independent scrutiny.
Architecture student at Tabriz University of Islamic Arts, cafe worker in Tabriz. First arrested on 19 Dey 1404 in Tabriz and released after a few days. Arrested again on 2 Bahman 1404 at the family home in Maragheh. Since then, his status and whereabouts have been unknown, with reports of serious charges and the risk of execution.
Credible reports indicate that detainees are often subjected to unfair trials, restricted legal access, and coerced confessions. When executions take place during periods of reduced visibility, the risk of irreversible injustice is significantly heightened.
In this context, international attention becomes one of the few remaining safeguards.
I respectfully urge you to:

* Raise this case urgently with the European External Action Service and relevant EU institutions
* Advocate for transparency and independent monitoring, particularly during ongoing communication restrictions
