I am writing with urgent concern regarding Ali Balaei, who is currently at imminent risk of execution in Iran.
This case comes at a particularly alarming time. In recent months, Iranian authorities have intensified executions in parallel with widespread unrest and ongoing conflict. These actions are increasingly carried out under conditions of severe internet restrictions and communication blackouts, which limit transparency and prevent independent scrutiny.
Ali Balya, brother of Shirzad Balya (victim of the 18 Dey 1404 protests), was arrested on 25 Bahman 1404 in Farhangian Square, West Islamabad, without a judicial warrant, and later transferred to the political ward of Dizelabad Prison, Kermanshah. Charges unclear; no information from the court or lawyer available.
Credible reports indicate that detainees are often subjected to unfair trials, restricted legal access, and coerced confessions. When executions take place during periods of reduced visibility, the risk of irreversible injustice is significantly heightened.
In this context, international attention becomes one of the few remaining safeguards.
I respectfully urge you to:

* Raise this case urgently with the European External Action Service and relevant EU institutions
* Advocate for transparency and independent monitoring, particularly during ongoing communication restrictions
