BodyDear MEP Nacho Sánchez Amor,
I am writing to draw your urgent attention to the case of Ehsan Hosseini, who is currently at risk of execution in Iran.
This case is unfolding amid a sharp escalation in executions during ongoing unrest and conflict, often carried out under conditions of internet restrictions and communication blackouts. These measures significantly reduce transparency and limit international oversight at the most critical moments.
Ehsan Hosseinipour, 19, a resident of Tehran, was arrested on the night of 18 Dey 1404. He is accused of arson of the Seyyed al-Shohada Mosque in Pakdasht and participation in the murder of two Basijis. The trial was held in Tehran's Revolutionary Branch 26, presided over by Judge Afshari. Forced confessions were reportedly obtained under torture, he was deprived of a lawyer of his choice, and is at risk of the death penalty. He remains imprisoned.
In January 2026, the European Parliament took a strong position against repression in Iran, signaling that such violations will not go unanswered. At a time when visibility is being deliberately reduced, continued and visible engagement is essential.
I respectfully urge you to consider:
– Publicly sponsoring Ehsan Hosseini within a political or detainee advocacy initiative
– Raising this case in plenary, committee discussions, or with the EEAS
– Supporting efforts to maintain visibility, including hearings with human rights defenders or affected families
– Calling for an immediate halt to the execution and for full due process guarantees

When visibility is limited, international attention can be one of the few remaining safeguards against irreversible harm. Timely action in this case could be decisive.
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen
