BodyDear MEP Matthieu VALET,
I am writing to bring to your immediate attention the case of Armin Mohammadi, who is reportedly facing execution in Iran.
Armin Mohammadi, from Balbanabad, Dehgolan district, Kurdistan province, has been arrested by security forces and transferred to an unknown location in the wake of a recent wave of arrests.
The European Parliament’s January 2026 resolution on repression in Iran, along with its firm position regarding the IRGC and the restriction of access for Iranian representatives, marked a clear escalation in the EU’s political response. To ensure these positions remain impactful, it is crucial that they are consistently applied to individual cases where lives are at imminent risk.
In this regard, I respectfully ask you to consider a more structured, preventive approach:
– Adopting Armin Mohammadi under a formal political sponsorship mechanism focused specifically on prisoners sentenced to death.
– Requesting that this case be included in official parliamentary communications and raised in dialogues with EU foreign policy representatives.
– Supporting dedicated briefings or side-events in Parliament featuring Iranian human rights advocates and experts monitoring execution cases.
– Promoting a coordinated initiative among Members to track and publicly reference named detainees at risk, reinforcing sustained oversight rather than one-time statements.
When individual prisoners are visibly linked to elected representatives, it increases transparency and international scrutiny. Consistent political association can serve as a deterrent in cases where proceedings lack due process safeguards.

Given the irreversible nature of the death penalty, timely engagement and sustained visibility may be decisive.
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen
