BodyDear Honourable Per CLAUSEN,
I am writing to request your urgent attention to the case of Mohammad Karimkhani, who is currently facing the risk of execution in Iran.
A 19-year-old protester from Nahavand, Hamadan Province, was arrested during protests on 18 Dey 1404. He is facing execution on charges of making Molotov cocktails, possessing ammunition, and espionage. He has no access to a lawyer and comes from a poor family.
The European Parliament has already taken a firm stance in response to the situation in Iran, notably through its January 2026 resolution condemning repression, its position regarding the IRGC, and its measures limiting engagement with Iranian state representatives. These actions established a clear political framework. The next step is ensuring that individual cases at imminent risk are consistently integrated into that framework.
In practical terms, I respectfully suggest:
– Taking on Mohammad Karimkhani as a sponsored detainee under a structured parliamentary advocacy initiative focused specifically on death penalty cases.
– Requesting updates from the EEAS on this individual case and ensuring it is raised in diplomatic exchanges.
– Supporting formal invitations for Iranian human rights defenders, UN mandate holders, or affected family members to brief Members on urgent execution cases.
– Encouraging coordinated cross-party visibility efforts, such as joint letters or questions highlighting named prisoners at risk.
Sustained attention to specific detainees transforms general resolutions into tangible protection mechanisms. When Parliament members visibly monitor a case, it signals continued international scrutiny.

Given the irreversible consequences involved, immediate and structured follow-up could prove decisive.
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen
