I am writing with urgent concern regarding Amirhossein Pouyan, who is currently at imminent risk of execution in Iran.
This case comes at a particularly alarming time. In recent months, Iranian authorities have intensified executions in parallel with widespread unrest and ongoing conflict. These actions are increasingly carried out under conditions of severe internet restrictions and communication blackouts, which limit transparency and prevent independent scrutiny.
Amir Hossein Pouyan, a Gilak citizen living in Sari, was arrested in Sari on the morning of 19 Dey 1404. On 22 Dey his forced confession was broadcast in state media and he was accused of murdering the Revolutionary Guards officer (Majid Ranjbar). There is no information about his current condition or whereabouts, but he is at risk of execution.
Credible reports indicate that detainees are often subjected to unfair trials, restricted legal access, and coerced confessions. When executions take place during periods of reduced visibility, the risk of irreversible injustice is significantly heightened.
In this context, international attention becomes one of the few remaining safeguards.
I respectfully urge you to:
* Call for an immediate halt to the execution of Amirhossein Pouyan
* Raise this case urgently with the European External Action Service and relevant EU institutions
* Advocate for transparency and independent monitoring, particularly during ongoing communication restrictions
