I am writing with urgent concern regarding Farzad Ghaderi, who is currently at imminent risk of execution in Iran.
This case comes at a particularly alarming time. In recent months, Iranian authorities have intensified executions in parallel with widespread unrest and ongoing conflict. These actions are increasingly carried out under conditions of severe internet restrictions and communication blackouts, which limit transparency and prevent independent scrutiny.
Farzad Ghaderi, an MMA champion from the city of Noor, Mazandaran, was shot and arrested by security forces on 18 Dey 1404 (12/11/2015) during protests in the city. His family has reported that he is facing the death penalty. There is no information on the name of the prison or the status of his lawyer.
Credible reports indicate that detainees are often subjected to unfair trials, restricted legal access, and coerced confessions. When executions take place during periods of reduced visibility, the risk of irreversible injustice is significantly heightened.
In this context, international attention becomes one of the few remaining safeguards.
