BodyDear MEP Silvia Sardone,
I am writing with urgent concern regarding Behrouz Basreh, who is currently at imminent risk of execution in Iran.
This case comes at a particularly alarming time. In recent months, Iranian authorities have intensified executions in parallel with widespread unrest and ongoing conflict. These actions are increasingly carried out under conditions of severe internet restrictions and communication blackouts, which limit transparency and prevent independent scrutiny.
Behrouz Basara, a 36-37 year old Kurdish citizen from Ilam, was arrested by security forces on 19-21 Dey 1404 at his father's house in the Saadi neighborhood of Ilam. Since the arrest, there has been complete ignorance of his status and whereabouts; he has been deprived of access to a lawyer and family visits. A video of a forced confession has been released claiming links to hostile and opposition networks. Charges such as leading protests and waging war are being raised, and his life is in serious danger of execution.
Credible reports indicate that detainees are often subjected to unfair trials, restricted legal access, and coerced confessions. When executions take place during periods of reduced visibility, the risk of irreversible injustice is significantly heightened.
In this context, international attention becomes one of the few remaining safeguards.
I respectfully urge you to:
* Call for an immediate halt to the execution of Behrouz Basreh
* Raise this case urgently with the European External Action Service and relevant EU institutions
* Advocate for transparency and independent monitoring, particularly during ongoing communication restrictions

Time is critical. When visibility is deliberately reduced, silence can enable irreversible harm.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen
