I am writing with urgent concern regarding Attila Sultanpour, who is currently at imminent risk of execution in Iran.
This case comes at a particularly alarming time. In recent months, Iranian authorities have intensified executions in parallel with widespread unrest and ongoing conflict. These actions are increasingly carried out under conditions of severe internet restrictions and communication blackouts, which limit transparency and prevent independent scrutiny.
Atila Soltanpour, 45, was arrested on the evening of 9 Bahman 1404 (2015) when security forces stormed his home in Tehran’s Pardis neighborhood. He was reportedly beaten during his arrest. He is currently being held incommunicado in Ward 209 of Evin Prison, and there are concerns about his health due to underlying illness and physical weakness. He has no immediate family in Iran.
Credible reports indicate that detainees are often subjected to unfair trials, restricted legal access, and coerced confessions. When executions take place during periods of reduced visibility, the risk of irreversible injustice is significantly heightened.
In this context, international attention becomes one of the few remaining safeguards.

* Raise this case urgently with the European External Action Service and relevant EU institutions
