BodyDear Petras Auštrevičius,
I am writing to draw your urgent attention to the case of Sina Gholami, who is currently at risk of execution in Iran.
This case is unfolding amid a sharp escalation in executions during ongoing unrest and conflict, often carried out under conditions of internet restrictions and communication blackouts. These measures significantly reduce transparency and limit international oversight at the most critical moments.
Rumors circulated online and in foreign media that Sina Gholami had been arrested during the Dey 1404 protests in eastern Tehran, injured, and sentenced to death on charges of war crimes. In a video released by state media, she denied these rumors, stating that she was alive and had no death sentence or charges of war crimes. No credible human rights source confirmed the arrest.
In January 2026, the European Parliament took a strong position against repression in Iran, signaling that such violations will not go unanswered. At a time when visibility is being deliberately reduced, continued and visible engagement is essential.
I respectfully urge you to consider:
– Publicly sponsoring Sina Gholami within a political or detainee advocacy initiative
– Raising this case in plenary, committee discussions, or with the EEAS
– Supporting efforts to maintain visibility, including hearings with human rights defenders or affected families
– Calling for an immediate halt to the execution and for full due process guarantees

When visibility is limited, international attention can be one of the few remaining safeguards against irreversible harm. Timely action in this case could be decisive.
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen
